At Garth we are always looking out for new and innovative high-quality fuels, so we are delighted to be distributing Australian Dragon’s Breath Charcoal, which has just launched in Bunnings Australia.

Australian Dragon’s Breath Charcoal is a lump charcoal made from 100% premium Australian Gidgee hardwood. The charcoal comes from the Acacia Cambagei tree, an incredibly resistant native tree with a very dense timber, able to withstand the hot arid areas of Western Queensland.

The timber is sustainably harvested from land which has been previously cleared for sheep and cattle grazing, coming from trees that have been on the ground for over 15 years. Processing the timber, which would otherwise have laid to waste, creates local employment opportunities in these rural areas.

Gidgee wood trees have been used to make hot burning charcoal in Australia for more than 100 years, following a unique process which has been handed down from one generation to the next, involving the slow combustion of the trees in deep pits. The heavy, dense, lump wood charcoal made from the Gidgee wood has a high fixed-carbon content, giving intense heat and a long-lasting burn time; perfect for use with a smoker, charcoal grill, pizza oven or spit roaster. It is also free from added chemicals or additives. Food cooked using the charcoal has a fantastic wood-fired flavour and is prized by anyone serious about barbecuing, from the backyard chef to the professional cook.
